Christian Faith Message

What are the Basics of Christian Faith?

At its core, the basics of Christian faith are centered on believing in one God who exists in three persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. The Old Testament points to the coming of Christ, and the New Testament describes the life and teachings of Jesus. Much of Jesus’ teachings were centered on the kingdom of God and encourage all to “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33).

Belief in Jesus Christ

Central to the Christian faith is the belief in Jesus Christ as the Son of God. The life and teachings are recorded in the New Testament, which are fundamental for living life with Christ. The fact that Jesus was crucified, died, and was resurrected on the third day is fundamental to the Christian faith. This act showed God’s ultimate love for humanity.

Jesus’ Teachings
on the Kingdom of God

The teachings of Christ on the kingdom of God establish the basics of Christian faith. Jesus was the consummate teacher who used parables, allegories, and metaphors to teach the principles of the kingdom. The book of Matthew records 13 parables about the kingdom, Mark records three parables, and Luke records three parables.

Jesus used the kingdom of God to illustrate that heaven is under God’s rule and that anyone who wishes to enter the kingdom of God must be born again. Jesus’ first teachings were, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 4:17), so people must stop following their own ways and instead live a new life with God in control.

Understanding the kingdom and how the kingdom of God operates is one of the basics of Christian faith. It was an essential message of Jesus and should be important for each Christian. Jesus was very clear when He said to seek the kingdom of God first because this message provides an internal guiding light for the believer.

Jesus used parables to tell the story of His kingdom. He spoke of the principles of life and how we can address life issues. The world comprises both good and evil, and every Person—Christian or non-believer—must face this reality daily. Jesus painted pictures with parables which help individuals understand and remember His teachings.

Life principles include the negatives of weeds among the wheat, which contrasts good with evil. We are challenged to come to grips with and manage our lives using the principles of the Kingdom. We should align ourselves with sound principles of the Kingdom while knowing that destructive forces exist.

Seek God First

The Role of the Bible

The Bible, comprising the Old and New Testaments, is regarded as the inspired word of God. It provides fundamental guidance in the spiritual lives of Christians. It is the source of divine wisdom and spiritual guidance for the basics of Christian faith.

Daily reading of the Bible provides the means to be transformed by renewing the mind. Paul wrote to the Christians in Rome, saying, “Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect” (Romans 12:2).

Jesus reminds the disciples, “They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world” (John 17:16). For the believer, this means that even though we live in the world, our ultimate world is the kingdom of heaven. Our earthly stay is, but a vapor compared to eternity.

The Bible is our source of knowledge, understanding, and wisdom. It is our assurance of the world to come.
